Aluminium I beam sections have web and flanges of different thicknesses.

An aluminium I beam is a length of aluminium formed in the shape of a capital I.

The other way of looking at it is a capital H on its side. Being made from aluminium makes I beams lighter and more resistant to corrosion than traditional mild steel I beams or universal beams.
