Staff get ready for Movember

A blue ball pickleball event, BBQ’s, information for staff and their families, and of course growing a luscious mo are just some of the things planned by Vulcan Ullrich Aluminium this Movember.

A team of 15 Vulcan Ullrich Aluminium employee MoBros and MoSistas will spearhead this year’s Movember effort as they work to raise awareness around men’s health.

Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men’s health with a focus on male’s biggest killers, mental health and suicide prevention, as well as prostate and testicular cancer.

Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.

A growing number of men – around 10.8M globally – are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides. In short, men are dying too young and Movember aims to change that.

Ullrich Aluminium Marketing and Communications Manager and Team Captain Gordon Watson said, “Sadly, only last week my friend who made my childhood the best you could imagine, left this world behind. Now more than ever funding for men’s health is paramount and needs a boost. Men are dying on average five years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.”

Vulcan Ullrich Aluminium Newcastle Branch Manager and Team MoSista Chantal Nichols has different reasons for being part of the team.

Chantal said. “I work in a male dominated industrial industry which I love. But one thing I notice, is men don't look after themselves like women do. They keep things bottled up, and don't take their health seriously - and that's not good. The reason I am a MoSista and part of the Movember Team is easy, I want the men in my world to be happier, healthier and better connected to family, work mates and community around them - for a longer, happier life.”

Vulcan Ullrich Aluminium will be hosting a series of events during November, including tool box talks, take home staff information, BBQ fundraisers as well as hosting a Blue Balls Pickleball Event at Currumbin on the Gold Coast.

Gordon says, “The pickleball event is designed to be a fun event for beginners while more serious players can get and work on their DUPR rating. If you have ever played a racquet sport, you need to try the fastest growing and most exciting sport in the world, Pickleball. Being active, is one good way to improve overall health and reduce the risk of cancer"
